Title

Practical Energy Efficiency Techniques - Insights from a Java-based Study

Abstract

Java, despite its popularity, ranks among the least energy-efficient programming languages. This issue takes on greater significance within the context of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, which is expanding its energy consumption and carbon emissions. Soon, ICT could be accountable for up to 14% of global emissions.

However, the fact that Java represents just a fraction of this larger problem does not exempt it from contributing to the solution. To foster a more sustainable ICT sector, every component must undergo optimization.

In my presentation, I will unveil a series of techniques capable of enhancing Java's energy efficiency by as much as 55%. Moreover, I aim to show that these very techniques have the potential to be broadly applicable across various domains. Join me as we explore how to bring a sustainable future for both Java and beyond.
