Title

Achieving high performance of scientific computations

Abstract

Modern computing platforms are becoming increasingly heterogeneous, with respect to the memory hierarchy, processor architecture and interconnect topology. It is thus more challenging to achieve high performance of scientific computations. This talk will shed some initial light on three performance-relevant topics. First, we investigate the performance impact of appropriate orderings of mesh entities in the context of finite element computations over unstructured meshes. Then, the subject of accelerating these computations by efficiently using GPUs is addressed. Thereafter, we discuss the performance modeling of irregular point-to-point MPI communications that are prevalent in distributed-memory parallelization.
